From Uppsala to the Swedish Musical Wonder
The Swedish Choir Movement is said to have originated in Uppsala in 1808, where students performed a singing peace march to protest the Swedish-Russian war in Finland. From then on, choral singing spread throughout Sweden, and became an organic part of the cultural heritage.
One of the most important advocates of Swedish choral life is the choirmaster and conductor Eric Ericson, who through his search for the brightest, purest and clearest sound, has epitomised the modern Nordic choral sound. He inspired Swedish composers and musicologists to create and understand choral music, and the so-called 'Swedish musical wonder'.
