Méthode progressive

FOREWORD

"In view of the brevity of this text, we hope that students will familiarise themselves with it. The aim of our method is to lead beginners progressively towards the major technical works in use. It seemed to us that these books were too quick to tackle exercises requiring too great a range and lip strength for most students. To reach the notes E and F, above A on the tuning fork, a few exercises are not enough, as teachers have found. In our opinion, it is necessary to present a gradual approach that allows rational development of the lips and labial muscles.

We have fixed the range of this method at two octaves (from G low to G high); starting from E medium we reach the limits by progressing in both directions (ascending and descending).

The range of our instruments, especially the modern works for trumpet, has increased by more than a third. If we also take into account the constant, if unjustified, rise in pitch, we have to ask the lips for a resistance that can only be obtained after appropriate technical preparation. So the beginning of trumpet studies is of paramount importance for the future of the instrumentalist.
