The impact that Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the Saxophone, (Dinant, Belgium, 1814 Paris, France, 1894) has had onmusical history is undeniable. In this work, Jan Van der Roost has tried to pay a sincere tribute to the great man; in doing so, he has drawn inspiration from two important musical qualities of the saxophone. The Ballade forthe most part highlights the melodic, somewhatmelancholy spirit that so well suits the instrument. The Fantaisie, on the other hand, focuses primarily on the great mobility the instrument can display when, that is, it isin the hands of a virtuoso!
Images was a compulsory work for the Final of the 6th Adolphe Sax International Competition - Dinant 2014 (B), and specially commissioned by the International Adolphe Sax Association, as partof the Bicentenary of the Birth of Adolphe Sax.
