Sheet music by Cornelius Frowein

Cornelius Frowein first studied piano with Günter Ludwig and chamber music with members of the Amadeus Quartet at the Musikhochschule Köln. This was followed by further studies in conducting, song accompaniment, harpsichord, musicology and philosophy.

During the first years of his concert career, Cornelius Frowein initially concentrated entirely on the piano, later also on the harpsichord, gave guest performances in numerous German cities, in Austria, Italy, Slovenia and England, made recordings for German, Italian and Slovenian radio stations and took part in CD productions.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, however, conducting has increasingly become the focus of artistic work, with the interpretation of 18th century music - especially Mozart and his contemporaries - playing a central role. Based on intensive studies of the aesthetics and performance practice of this music, Frowein developed an interpretation approach that combines the findings of current research with the conditions of modern orchestras and concert halls. At the same time, he is also a patron of contemporary music, having commissioned several compositions and premiered works.

Cornelius Frowein teaches at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and at the Orchesterzentrum NRW in Dortmund.
