Franzpeter Goebels was a German pianist, harpsichordist and university teacher.
Franzpeter Goebels was the son of an organist and pupil of Karl Hermann Pillney and Raoul von Koczalski. In addition to piano lessons, he studied musicology, Romance studies and philosophy. Before he was called up for military service in 1942, he was solo pianist at the German radio station from 1940.
From 1947 Goebels taught piano at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf, where he was also director of the Studio for New Music. In 1958 he was appointed professor for piano and harpsichord at the Nordwestdeutsche Musikakademie Detmold. There he taught until his retirement in 1982 and directed the Seminar for Music Education and the Studio for New Music until 1972.
Goebels received the Ruhr Prize for Art and Science in 1964. In addition to his pianistic and pedagogical activities, he has also appeared as an author, arranger and publisher of musical works.
Franzpeter Goebels had been married since 1951 and had two children, including the pianist Friedwart Goebels, who teaches at the Faculty of Music Therapy at the private SRH Hochschule Heidelberg.
