The Austrian musicologist, Reinhold Kubik, received his Abitur from the Humanistic College, Vienna II, in 1960; PhD from the University Erlangen, Nuremberg, Federal Republic of Germany, in 1980. He studied piano, composition, conducting with Hans Swarowsky at Hochschule für Musik in Vienna.
During his professional career, Reinhold Kubik was from 1966 to 1974 conductor at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf (Duisberg) and many European cities including Lille, Barcelona, and Ljubljana. He was also pianist, composer, choir-master, and lecturer (1980). He was proprietor at Hänssler Musik Verlag, Kirchheim, Federal Republic of Germany, from 1989. He has taught at the Vienna Conservatoire and in Nuremberg, Karlsruhe and London. and was Visiting Professor at the Yale University, USA in 1987.
