Rob Goorhuis studied choral and orchestra conducting, piano, organ and music theory at the conservatoires of Utrecht, Arnhem and Tilburg. As a composer, however, he is self-taught. In addition to his extensive wind and brass output, he also composed a remarkable number of chamber works, sacred music and vocal pieces.
He is often commissioned to write for well-known and lesser known artists. He wrote music for `De Dam´ in Amsterdam, to commemorate Dutch National Memorial Day. He also composed many compulsory repertoire pieces for national and international music competitions, such as `Sonata da Chiesa´ (compulsory piece 1st Division ONFK 2011), `In Memoriam Piebe Bakker´ (compulsory piece WMC 2013, Concert Division Fanfare).
For his service to brass bands, he received, among other accolades, the `Gerard Boedijn Penning´ (2003), the `De Piebe Bakker Award´ (2012) and the `BUMA Brass Award' (2016).
