Stefan Fuchs first studied "modern" violoncello in Munich and Zurich before continuing his training with Christophe Coin (baroque cello) at the Schola Cantorum Basilienses. Master classes with Paul Tortelier, Maurice Gendron and Anner Bylsma complete his training. The "Ensemble Trazom", which he co-founded in 1992, has developed into one of the most sought-after chamber music groups internationally for the interpretation of classical and romantic music on original instruments.
As solo cellist and ensemble member he has performed with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Franz Brüggen, Philipp Hereweghe, Frieder Bernius and Christopher Hogwood, among others, and recorded CDs with BMG/arte Nova, Opus 111, Sony and Orfeo, some of which have received international record awards. Stefan Fuchs has been a lecturer at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe since 1997. Research and publications on instruments and performance practice of the 18th and 19th centuries complement his activities as a cellist.
