Violin Concerto ~ Dem Andenken eines Engels

The genesis of Alban Berg's Violin Concerto is tragic: although it was commissioned by the US violinist Louis Krasner, it became a requiem for Berg for Manon Gropius, Alma Mahler's daughter, when she died of a brain tumour in April 1935 at the age of only 19. Berg dedicated the work to both his patron and his muse: "For Louis Krasner; to the memory of an angel". The composer died at the end of 1935, before the first performance of the Violin Concerto.

With this facsimile, a key work of modernism becomes accessible in a completely new way.
