Easter is the most important festival of the church year, and composers of all eras have created great works to celebrate Easter. The Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah is probably one of the most impressive compositions celebrating the resurrection of Christ. Browse our sheet music and scores, and whether it’s festive music, Easter cantatas or psalms you are after, no matter your style, genre or instrumentation, let Stretta Music help you celebrate today!
Easter has always held a special place within church music. Even before the Reformation, the high festivals were places for songs in the common tongue, alongside an otherwise Latin liturgy. The predict Christ is Risen, which refers to the Easter sequence Victimae Paschali Laudes, is the oldest German hymn, which Martin Luther used to create the popular Christ Lay in Death’s Bonds.
The Hallelujah, which appears in the earliest Psalms, is of central importance for Easter. Easter is characterised by great rejoicing, so in addition to music written especially for the Easter, almost any festive church music is well suited for the celebration.
