Epiphany, the feast of the Epiphany, or the Three Kings’ Day, is the oldest feast of the Christian Church after Easter.
Three events were dated 6 January: The arrival of the three wise men from the Orient, the baptism of Christ, and his first appearance in the miracle of Canaan, the transformation of water into wine. While in the western church the main interest is in the three wise men, as the popular name "Epiphany" indicates, in the eastern church the focus is on the baptism of the Lord or his birth.
In the middle of the dark season the feast has always been associated with the symbolism of light. The songs therefore often focus not only on the three kings but also on the rising morning star.
