Sound Classics
The American composer and jazz pianist Herbert Jeffrey "Herbie" Hancock was born in Chicago on April 12, 1940. Many of his compositions have become classics, including the "Watermelon Man", which was first released on the album "Takin' Off" in 1962. Herbie Hancock herself tells about the creation of the "Watermelon Man", that the melody comes from the cry of a watermelon seller he heard in his youth. Markus Götz has arranged the catchy rhythms and the casual sound of the "Watermelon Man" for wind orchestra.
