The cantata "Auf, auf, ihr Herzen, seid bereit" was composed for the fourth Sunday in Advent, most certainly during Homilius's tenure as Kreuzkantor in Dresden between 1755 and 1785, although a more precise dating is not possible. The author of the cantata text is unknown.
