The Lute gets its name from the Arabic “ūd”, and first came to Europe via Italy and Spain in the late 12th to early 13th Century. In the Renaissance Period, in the 1500s, it was named “the queen of all instruments”. The term Lute refers to all Medieval strummed and plucked instruments, and includes amongst others the Baglama, Sitar, Theobo, Oud and the European Lute, and is the predecessor of the modern guitar.
