Original version from 1885
American Patrol is een populaire mars geschreven door Frank White Meacham in 1885. Het bevat zowel originele muzikale thema's van Meacham als melodieën van Amerikaanse patriottische liedjes uit die tijd, zoals 'Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean' en 'Dixie'. Het "Patrol" -formaat was populair in de tweede helft van de 19e eeuw. Het formaat was bedoeld om een militaire band te vertegenwoordigen die naderbij kwam, voorbijging en in de verte vervaagde.
