With Lauferei my idea was to write a timpani solo piece that would combine melodic writing with a more orchestral style of writing. I wanted to make a contrast between the sections of the piece, some are virtuosic and some are more introspective. The piece also includes polyrhythms and some tricky tuning. (Jani Niinimäki)
