Rhythm & Blues

“Rhythm and Blues” was the name given to urban popular music in the 1940s, which evolved out of boogie-woogie and classic blues. Influenced by jazz and big-band music, it developed alongside Rock ’n’ Roll, and inspired many artists throughout the 20th century.

Through artists like Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Prince , Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston in the 1980s & 1990s, R&B became more and more mainstream, and it is hugely popular worldwide to this day.
