“A-wap-bop-a-lup-bop, A-wop-bam-boom!” Little Richard sounded the age of rock n’ roll with “Tutti Frutti”, introducing wild rhythms, and a new way of singing, swinging and dancing. From the USA, Rock n’ Roll heralded a new age of freedom, which conquered the world after the end of World War II. Rock n’ Roll was also the birth of a youth culture that had never before been allowed to exist. Traditionally, one went directly from the parental home, to beginning one’s own family, conforming with tradition, and following social guidelines. But now everything changed. The youth began to revolt and turn against the system, and the soundtrack was Rock n’ Roll! The music, the movement, even the clothing, broke the tight chains of convention, and allowed for a new era of physical and musical freedom.
Musicologically, the song “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley is considered to be the birth of Rock n’ Roll. Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Chuck Berry were pioneers, as this new musical style rapidly broke through, and quickly captured the hearts, souls and imaginations of the whole world.
