Ballett
Parade is a ballet with music composed by Erik Satie and a one-act scenario by Jean Cocteau. Created in 1916 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and hailed as Satie’s 'cubistmanifesto.'
Stripped of subjective emotion, the work removes basic fragments of melody and simple harmonies from their conventional associations and recasts them in unexpected but logical patterns, much as cubist paintersexploded familiar forms into unexpected configurations.
