Zikmund Schul was born in Chemnitz in 1916 and died in the ghetto of Terezín in 1944. He is one of the composers who have been neglected when reappraising the music of the so-called Terezín composers. In cooperation with the Terezín Music Memorial Project in Tel Aviv and the Yad Vashem memorial, Bote & Bock will be publishing all preserved works by the Hindemith and Hába student Zikmund Schul in loose sequence, together with the works by other composers. The works include chamber music for strings, vocal and choral works and a piano fugue. The Duo, written in 1943, is one of Schul's most extensive preserved works and one of the most important compositions for this kind of duo ensemble - an invaluable enhancement of the repertoire.
