Magic Child

I didn't actually compose the head theme in this piece myself, that was my daughter Olivia. In a very dreamy moment, she sang the little melody that sounds in the clarinets right at the beginning. This little melody fascinated me so much through its essence, which arose in childlike dreaminess, that I absolutely had to adopt it for my piece and so I developed the individual movements from it. The title of this work was also created in this spirit. In all three movements I combine this melody with my own ideas. Whereas the first movement ( Introduction ) is rather sustained, the second movement develops into a very stomping dance. The third movement is a powerful chorale that combines Olivia's melody and the other themes of the work and leads to the end in a grand and powerful sound.

I dedicated the piece to my daughter Olivia, it came about through a commission from the Lucerne Cantonal Music Association.
