Strandgänger (Capriccioso, scherzando) - II Ebene (Lento appassionato) - III Sprache (Andante, mesto)
“That which is still alive” is one of the composer’s most sophisticated lyrical utterances, and was inspired by the poetry of Johannes Bobrowski. This seemingly simple, though actually highly complex piece is in fact a dodecaphonic work. However, Volkonsky’s mastery is so great and his music so delicate and intense that one does not notice the kind of compositional technique he has chosen to employ.
