Lachian Polonaise

One of Evzen Zamecnik's great concert works for concert band is "Lachian Polonaise".

Lachisch refers to a mixed language of the West Slavic languages, with references partly to Czech, partly to Polish. A polonaise is in the original sense a solemnly paced dance in three-four time. In the 16th century this dance, at that time still in four-four time, was danced by Polish dignitaries - as a tribute to their homeland. Especially from the 17th century onwards, dance in its present form first established itself in France. This is also the origin of today's name, because "polonaise" is the French word for Polish. From there, the polonaise spread throughout Europe and became a popular dance and a popular form of composition.

Evzen Zámecník begins his "Lachian Polonaise" with tender, sweet and almost melancholic melodies that alternate throughout the piece with powerful, heavy passages.
