The Classical Spanish Music tradition reaches far and wide. It begins with works from the Spanish Renaissance Period, such as the Seven Villancicos from the “Cancionero de Palacio”, and is still very prominent today with a great deal of Contemporary Spanish Music from composers like José María Sánchez-Verdú and Gabriel Erkoreka. There are many famous Spanish Baroque composers, Spanish Classical composers, and Spanish Romantic composers, including Tomás Luis de Victoria, Padre Antonio Soler, and Isaac Albéniz to name but a few.
The Flamenco is probably the best-known element of Spanish Folk Music, but it is not the only one. Most Spanish Folk Music was written for bagpipes, diatonic accordion, popular flutes such as the gralla, the txistu or the alboca, and percussion instruments such as the tamboril or the txalaparta.
Musical forms like the Fandango, the Paso Doble, the Copla, the Jota, the Muñeira, the Sardana, and the Zortziko show the richness and depth of Spanish folk music culture.
There is also a wealth of Spanish Pop and Spanish Rock music to discover, with world renowned artists like Pablo Alborán, Maldita Nerea, Fito y Fitipaldis, Enrique Iglesias, Jarabe de Palo, Joaquín Sabina and many more!
